It’s no secret that the standard cables have always been a weak link in the musical instrument signal path. Variations in the design and manufacturing tolerances of standard jacks and plugs can often create poor, loose or noisy connections.
The Planet Waves design goal was to create a plug that would make a solid, static-free connection with virtually every standard jack manufactured. The cornerstone to this improved design is the incorporation of eight "banana-like" compression springs in the shank of our instrument cable plug. These springs compress, making excellent contact, while provide additional mechanical holding force.
They didn’t stop there.
They designed cables that have near perfect frequency response, Double-insulated/double-shield coverage and the lowest triboelectric noise (often referred to as "microphonics" or "handling noise") of any cables on the market. The plug is soldered, covered with an internal copper shield tube, and then over-molded, first with a rigid PVC to encapsulate the solder joints, and then with a flexible polymer for unprecedented strain relief. This virtually indestructible construction is so tough, so durable, that it carries a limited lifetime warranty.
Planet Waves cables have special Positive Connection plugs with strain relief at the most critical points, and provide an ultra clean signal that is unmatched. Each plug is plated with 24-karat gold and has 8 compression springs that allow the plug to positively lock into the jack, eliminating any annoying static. The plugs also have a rigid plastic molded directly over a copper cylinder surrounding the soldering points for maximum protection. A soft, ergonomically shaped plug housing is then overmolded throughout the plug, offering supreme strain relief.
