New tube from Russia. Slightly brighter and lower gain, quicker compression than GT 12AX7. Great for most Fenders, may not be well suited for high gain Fender type amps (such as Boogie).
The choice of most all smaller powered Fender amps and other similar low powered amps (about 15 watts per tube). Warm, round, easily overdriven. Great for recording or practice.
The Choice of most all medium powered Fender amps, and the many Fender "wanabe" amps. This specially designed pentode with a beam forming electrode was invented by RCA and has many variations available. It's response is rounder, with a more pronounced midrange character, very chesty and very old time rock 'n' roll.
USA/GT reissue which is 95% USA components made on the original General Electric machines, the original tools, dies, materials and processing formulas as acquired from the liquidation for the last American tube factory in Owensbororough Kentucky. Stunning clarity, and tone that is reminiscent of Carl Perkins through Jimi Hendrix... both of which mostly recorded through Fender amps in a period when they only use this tube. The most expensive (because of the the high US content)
The Classic pentode power tube used in Marshall, Hiwatt, Laney, and similar Euro type amps. These tubes have a big bottom and a crisp top end that get crunchy when pushed hard. It also has sort of a hollow midrange response. The choice of the modern rockers, ala British Rock & Heavy Metal.
Most common low power pentode, popularized in early Vox AC30 amps. Rediscovered by Matchless amps and now currently used by nearly every tube amp company. Quick, soft overdrive distortion, great for recording but usually too low volume for live gigs.
