What Is Tone ???

What is this thing called TONE ! What does it sound like ? Who has tone? How do we get tone? How do we buy tone ? This question has been around since guys have been plucking away on the six string even BEFORE it was electric.

Many people describe what TONE is by pointing to a certain player on a record and saying that's TONE ! WOW when I hear SRV or Robin Ford I hear TONE? But is it ? The SRV tone mystery has been debated over and over again of how he got it, what he used, how it was recorded, etc that his TONE should be pretty easy to obtain. Well this is where we get closer to the true meaning of tone. TONE really is a sound a signature of a artist. SRV TONE came from well Stevie Ray. All of what Stevie was as a player, person, body type, EMOTION, and gear went into that sound. That sound set the standard for the TONE of his music and life.

The point here is you can't buy TONE per se its deeper than the gear. Its subjective and personal and unique. One Mans TONE is another man's nightmare. TONE is a sound upon when we hear it and feel it provides us and others with an emotion. A emotion of happiness, anger, and ENERGY !! It brings us to a place not of this world to a higher place. This is WHAT TONE IS !!!! Its not a Tubescreamer into a blah blah blah. Its NOT a formula its a feeling and sound. One mans TONE maybe god awful biting fuzz into a Fender Twin on 9 anothers may be a Gibson 335 into a mild boost pedal into a Polytone split into a Vox AC30. Who has TONE here? If both men, even if all by themselves in their basement feel moved by the sound when they play...........
