What makes pickups sound like they do ?

Posted : October 19th, 2010 by toyz

Imagine this: you’re standing directly in between two guitars: one on your right and one on your left. They are similar guitars in terms of the construction: same pickup types, same neck joint, same scale length, same number of frets, same hardware, etc., except they’re made of different woods. The guitar on the right is noticeably warmer, even when you strum it acoustically as compared to the guitar on the left that is brighter sounding. Now, picture this: where you’re standing – in the middle, between the two guitars – is what we’ll call “Good Tone”: the perfect blend of warmth and brightness. Goto the rest of the Article

What is this thing called TONE ! What does it sound like ? Who has tone? How do we get tone? How do we buy tone ? What order do they go in ?

Posted : July 8th, 2010 by toyz

What order do they go in ? – There are some basic rules that people follow which may aid in the hook up of the boxs in the first place. Usually they run compression pedal first, wah pedals second, then all the overdrives/fuzz’s, then the modulation pedals (chorus, flange, etc.) and then last the delay pedals. The volume pedal if used should go first or last depending on the sound. But again these are based on what most people do. Are you most people? Maybe put them in different order..make new sounds….find better quality sounds? Go to Article

Moog Music Tour

Posted : June 28th, 2010 by toyz

Moog Music – Recently, Moog Music relocated to Asheville NC. We found this cool video on the Moog site that gives a tour of the facilities there and it really got us thinking: Sometimes we spend so much time enjoying the end result that we forget all the hard work, confusion, labor, and time that goes into making these devices. Guys like Bob Moog, for instance, come from such humble roots, are driven by a unique curiosity for sound, and devoted their lives to create some of your favorite toys. So next time you are wailing on your favorite guitar, stomping on your fuzz box, or creating some wacky tones on your synthesizer, take a second to appreciate what goes into making these products. Because without these masters of experimentation and the masses of people who help realize their ideas, the music as we know it wouldnt have gotten very far at all.
