The End of the Album - We are actually witnessing a revolution in the music industry as we speak. The newest generation of music devotees are deeply entrenched in the iPOD download era. But I for one worry about the effect of these new music delivery system on the state of music as a whole. Our music has become like the food we consume in fast food nation. We want it now and we dont really care how good it is just give it to me FAST. I dont even want to listen to the whole album anymore just give me the hit !

The most nerve racking thing I see is the death of the album/CD in a whole. No longer will bands be putting out full lengths of work but 2 or 3 singles at a time. What a shame. Even if they do put out a full length project people dont listen to a whole album anymore they download just one or two hit online. I feel the artists even know this now, this is why we find so many albums with 3 or 4 cuts and 12 songs of filler. No longer is the artist developed for its depth but more for its pop appeal and hits.

I guess we have now gone full circle as return to a time in the 50s when people just bought 45s and listened to the jukebox. I want to stay in the FM revolution of album rock, a time when you listened to the whole album and found off the beaten trail classic songs. Who wanted the hits, you could hear that on the radio I wanted the buried songs. I wanted the entire album to playout and feel and hear the artists/band entire thoughts and that point in their career and life.

I find the music industry full of artists who write articles for grocery store gossip magazines. What is going to happen to the artists who wrote books of music that changed your life ?
