The History of Hiwatt Amps !

This was taken from Mhus.com you should check it out for MORE Hiwatt info !
This is a GREAT Site for ALL Amp Info! http://mhuss.com/Hiwatt/

Dan Reeves worked at Sound City in the mid-60s and created his own amplifier line "Hiwatt". Not a clone or take off the popular amps of the day they where new creations, with the help of Harry Joyce who owned a mil-spec wiring company Hiwatt was born ! One of the first and major users of Hiwatts was no other that Pete Towshend of The Who, in fact some of the first models he used where really Sound City amps modded by Reeves with Hiwatt Badges on them. But this wouldn't last long !

Dave Reeves worked as the design engineer at the SOUND CITY division of Dallas Arbiter Ltd. where he conceived the idea for a new and unique, ultra sturdy and reliable amp. Reeves' designs were not just "me too" copies of existing popular amps, but completely original and different. These amplifiers used only the highest quality components from top to bottom, inside and out.

HIWATT was a life-long labour of love for Reeves, who ran the business from (and built the amplifiers in) the front room of his home in the early years, even while working other jobs to pay the bills.

Another main player in the Hiwatt story was Harry Joyce, who ran a shop that did mil-spec wiring custom wiring on contract, including items for the British navy. His shop used "no compromise" workmanship and quality control, and Harry hand-picked his elite crew of wiring technicians and taught them his meticulous methods for "mil-spec" wiring.

Reeves found this custom wiring business in the phone book, and after some negotiation with the skeptical Joyce, persuaded him to wire the Hiwatt amplifier chassis. The rest is history.

Sadly, both of these men have passed on, Reeves in 1981 and Joyce in 2002. Harry Joyce briefly produced his own line of Hiwatt-like amplifiers in the 90s.

It has been difficult to find accurate technical information on Hiwatts, and in particular there has been a dearth of proper schematics and layouts. These pages are an attempt to at remedy this situation.

NOTE: As with all things historic, your author must rely on second- and third-hand information, and therefore there will certainly be some inaccuracies and errors in the information presented, particularly when it concerns historical facts and dates.
