dave.gif - 29234 BytesWhat is a pedalboard ? - A pedalboard or effects board is something that is so many things to so many people. It really is what we want it to be or better yet actually what we are trying to accomplish with it. One guitar player maybe a basic blues guy has a overdrive pedal, wah-wah and a delay pedal..that's it ! The next guy might be a noize type player with 6 fuzz pedals, compressors, 2 delays, octave pedal, a micro synth, volume pedal etc. There both pedalboards but they are trying to accomplish two totally different things.

Effects have been explained to me in colors or spices. It's how we paint the aural picture we want to express. If we want to paint in black and white we need 2 colors, if we want to make mosaics we need 10 or 12 colors, if we are great short order cook we need salt pepper and some sugar. A Thai chef with other Euro dish's maybe we need 15 or 20 spices. Anyway you get the idea, it's what we are trying to create that ends up what our board is.

To be very simple a pedalboard is a board that we mount our effect pedals to to get them organized and protected. But after that its up to you to figure out what goes on there and what music and/or expression your trying to create ! You can't make Indian food without some Curry you can't make space rock without a long delay pedal !

Once you figure out what your trying to accomplish you can then figure the size, power and construction of what you will need. Your a blues rocker then you need a small board with power for 4 pedals, a industrial rocker who likes to do movie soundtrack recordings at home, max board and power for 12 please ! You play at home and go out once or twice a month with your gear, gig bag is probably good enough. Throwing your stuff in the van this summer and doing 45 dates or playing 75 dates this year.....I would say road case is neccessary !

Think what your trying to accomplish and you will figure out what YOUR pedalboard is. If you need help email tr@musictoyz.com or call 888-400-7436
